An important goal for Rio Tinto Diamonds is to provide retailers with the assurance that there are no issues over the origin of its diamonds, or the quality of the mine that produced them. From mining to sales, each mine's production is kept separate in order to maintain the national identity of each mine.
The Mine of Origin Mark signifies this assurance.
The Mine of Origin program offers your customers the confidence that the diamonds are sourced from a known mine, operated by a world-leading mining company, managed as a separate product stream and distributed according to the rules of the Kimberley Process. Specifically a “fingerprint” is etched onto the diamond and travels with the diamond all the way to the retailer. A separate database is available for consumers to go on-line to identify their Diavik diamond.
Integral to the Mark of Origin program is the notion of a "Diamond with a Story", which refers to the human, geological and cultural stories that form an intrinsic part of Rio Tinto's diamonds and can add meaning and significance to the end consumer's purchase. It is an important marketing vehicle through which you can differentiate themselves from competitors.
